American Heart Month

Love Your Heart with Check Into Cash online!

February is American Heart Month and Check Into Cash online is proud to join the cause and Love Your Heart this February

Did you know?

  • More than 85 million people in the U.S. are living with cardiovascular diseases, including heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure.
  • One third of  U.S. adults have high blood pressure.
  • About every 43 seconds, someone in the United States has a heart attack.

Are you at risk for heart disease?

Here are some of the factors you can avoid or eliminate through simple lifestyle changes that may be increasing your risk:

  • Diabetes
  • Obesity and being overweight
  • Poor diet
  • Physical inactivity
  • High blood pressure
  • High LDL cholesterol
  • Smoking

Unfortunately, not all of the risk factors are within your control.  Your age and family history can increase your risk if:

  • You are a woman over age 55
  • You are a man over age 45
  • Your father or brother had heart disease before age 55
  • Your mother or sister had heart disease before age 65

Heart attacks don’t always present themselves the way they appear in movies. Making sure you know all the possible signs can not only save your life, but the lives of those around you in the event of an emergency. Some common signs of a heart attack include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Feeling nauseated
  • Vomiting
  • Stomachache
  • Heartburn
  • Breaking out in a cold sweat
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling lightheaded
  • Feeling unusually tired or fatigued
  • Pain or discomfort in the center or left side of chest
  • Feeling of pressure, squeezing, or fullness in center or left side of chest
  • Pain or discomfort in upper body- including arms, back shoulder, neck, jaw or upper stomach

There are several ways you can help lower your risk for developing heart diseases. If you’re truly concerned about your risk, ask your doctor to help you come up with a plan unique to you, but some starting changes you can make to decrease your risk include:

  • Watching your weight
  • Quit smoking
  • Control and monitor your cholesterol
  • Know your blood pressure and check it regularly
  • Limit alcohol to no more than one drink daily
  • Lower your stress and find healthy stress relief methods
